PostgreSQL Database Team Lead

As a Database team lead at Deriv, you will coordinate the activities of our highly talented Database team to plan, install, and maintain our database systems. You will use your extensive experience to ensure that our Postgres databases are scalable, hackproof, properly backed-up, and redundant in case of failure. In collaboration with your team, you will guarantee the security, integrity, and seamless flow of information for our high-traffic online trading platform.

Your challenges
The role is hands-on. Technically challenging and fast paced
The role requires close collaboration with the VP and the Principal Engineer for Storage to align with strategic goals
You will plan and prioritize work to be progressed by the team
You will nurture and grow a team with wide ranging abilities - from junior to expert level
You will continually monitor and review the storage landscape, and look for ways to innovate and refine to meet ever increasing volume, performance, security and availability challenges
The role requires multi-site collaboration over different time zone

The Database Team Lead at Deriv is responsible for managing a high performing team of Database Administrators. The Storage (DBA) team covers all research & development projects and production support activities relating to in-memory caches, relational databases and long term storage.

Requirements
8+ years of related, recent, experience
3-5 years of experience leading a team
Strong recent hands on software development and code review skills with PostgreSQL principally
Strong hands on system administration using Linux on AWS/GCP
Experience working with large, distributed, high-performance, high availability databases with 24/7 uptime
Excellent spoken and written English communication skills
A university degree in software engineering, computer science, or a related field
Occasional travel between office locations across the Globe
A desire to continue to learn and keep up to date with the Postgres & Linux communities and best practices

What’s Good To Have
Work experience in the fintech and/or trading industries advantageous
Experience with Kubernetes, Terraform and database as a service advantageous
Experience with database CI/CD tools and implementation advantageous
Experience with Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL databases and Redis advantageous
